Thank you for your interest in becoming a member of the Bioinformatics Hub of Kenya initiative. We have different member tiers for you to choose from.

Membership Classes

1. Ordinary Membership/Full Member

Ordinary Membership is open to individuals who have enrolled in a master's degree program in Bioinformatics, Data Science, or its equivalent. As an ordinary member, you are required to pay the annual membership fee. By joining as an ordinary member, you will gain access to various benefits and opportunities, including:

  1. Participation in assigned projects
  2. Mentorship of aspiring bioinformaticians
  3. Presentations on your completed or ongoing projects
  4. Attendance at meet-ups, trainings, and journal clubs
  5. Skill development in presentation, grant writing, proposal writing, and manuscript writing
  6. Peer training and networking opportunities
  7. Exposure to established bioinformaticians and advanced scripting knowledge
  8. Mentorship programs
  9. Participation in fun activities
2. Associate Membership

Associate Membership is designed for aspiring bioinformaticians, including undergraduate and diploma students, as well as researchers with a keen interest in Bioinformatics. As an associate member, you will have the following privileges:

  1. Participation in assigned projects
  2. Presentations on your completed or ongoing projects, when called upon
  3. Attendance at meet-ups and trainings
  4. Participation in journal clubs
3. Advisory Committee Membership

The Advisory Committee consists of established researchers in the field of Bioinformatics. To become a member of the Advisory Committee, you must hold a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, or its equivalent, with a minimum of 5 years of working experience. Membership in the Advisory Committee is by invitation from the Steering Committee, based on your expertise and experiences. As an Advisory Committee member, your mandates and functions include:

  1. Providing mentorship to the Steering Committee and the hub at large
  2. Advising on how to achieve the vision of the hub
  3. Overseeing the success of the hub
  4. Suggesting, inviting, or being guest speakers at meet-ups and trainings
  5. Assisting in sourcing funds
4. Mentors

Mentors are established researchers with a strong interest in mentoring early-stage researchers in the field of Bioinformatics. To become a mentor, you must hold a Ph.D. in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, Data Science, or its equivalent, and have a proven track record of successful mentorship. The Steering Committee will extend invitations to qualified individuals based on their commitment to the objectives of the hub.

5. Corporate Membership

Corporate Membership is available to associations, institutions, or businesses that share an interest in supporting and furthering the aims and objectives of the Organization.
